Welcome to the Bingley Grammar School website
Background to the school
Although we are titled as a Grammar School through the Charter of 1529, we are in fact a large voluntary aided comprehensive school, accommodating 1935 students aged 11-18, with 370 in the VI Form.
The school has a long tradition dating back to 1529, when a series of wealthy benefactors from among the people of Bingley provided a trust to support the education of the young people of the town. Situated on the edge of Bingley, the School underwent a major £4.5 million expansion and refurbishment project in 2000 to provide new teaching facilities, a new Hall, Library and Learning Resource Centre.
We were designated as a Specialist Business and Enterprise College in September 2006 and are strengthening relationships with our feeder primary schools, local businesses and the community as a result.
The school has two Governing Bodies. Firstly, the Foundation Trustee Governors, own land, property and investments, which are used to benefit the school and its students. The school owes a debt of gratitude to its foundation governors who have funded special events, expeditions for students, prizes, awards, and underwritten major building projects. The Foundation carries on a tradition to help provide the best possible education for the students who attend the school. A number of the Foundation Trustee Governors are also school Governors. The school Governing Body is charged with overseeing the strategic development of the school.
We are a school that is developing. 2009 GCSE results were 85% 5 A*-C grades and 64% 5 A*-C (including English and Maths).
